Matabeleland North

Matabeleland North

Matabeleland North Province of Zimbabwe includes Bulawayo, Hwange and Victoria Falls.  The name Matabeleland is derived from the Matabele (Ndebele) people who reside in the area.

The land here is less fertile than other provinces and commercial crops cannot be grown.  The farmers of the area are mostly subsistent and cattle ranching is more successful than crop growing.

The region has a significant amount of other resources in the form of gold, limestone and timber, amongst others.  The area is known for its large wildlife population as seen in the Hwange National Park.  However, the main geographic feature of this province is Victoria Falls.
