Bulawayo
General Information
Bulawayo is situated in the Matabeleland North province of Zimbabwe. It is a bright and historically intriguing city. With Harare becoming the seat of government in the colonial era, Bulawayo has largely been free from political tension, and today emits a peaceful and relaxed ambience.
Central Bulawayo has an enjoyable and understated atmosphere with wide, tree-lined avenues, shady green parks and old British colonial architecture. Most of Bulawayo's population inhabits the high-density suburbs north-west of the centre.
Bulawayo has always been considered as the industrial and business capital of Zimbabwe and is home to the National Railways of Zimbabwe due its strategic position near Botswana and South Africa. It is the nearest large city to Hwange National Park, Matopo National Park and Victoria Falls.
The city has a relatively high altitude and therefore has a subtropical climate, despite it lying within the tropics.
